“Afternoon at the Fishpond”

One of my favorite swimming spots near my home is at Kaloko Honokohau, a National Park here on the Big Island of Hawaii. Kaloko means pond, and the ancient Hawaiians built a seawall using just stone building an effective fish trap. I love to bob in the water there, it’s sheltered and has such a sense of history and place. This day in particular also had a rare clear view of Hualalai, one of the 5 volcanoes on the Big Island, which is frequently shrouded in mist and mystery. “Afternoon at the Fishpond”, 30×40″ oil on canvas.
